How to Access Polaris

There are two ways to sign on to Polaris.

The first way is from the UCF home page. To get to the homepage, type http://www.ucf.edu. From the home page, click on "Academics and Administration" and then on the underline word, "Polaris," and you will come to the log-in page for Polaris.

The second way is to type the URL for Polaris, which is https://polaris.ucf.edu.

Both ways will bring you to this page to sign on.

To sign onto Polaris, the first thing you need to do is enter your student or employee ID number. Today we are going to sign in as a student called "Knightro." I am going to enter his number then you need to enter a pin number. Notice when I enter the pin number that the numbers show up as stars so nobody can see what the pin number is. Your original pin number when you sign in to Polaris will be your month and day of birth. So, if you were born January 6th, your original pin number will be 0106. Your pin number will always be four digits.

The next step is to click on the log in button one time and it will take you the task selection menu. Now, the first time you sign into Polaris, you will not go directly to this menu, instead you will get a page to change your pin number. I am going to click on pin maintenance so you get a chance to see what it will look like.

The first thing that you will need to do is to enter again your student or employee number and the pin number you just used. Then you will have to enter a new pin number twice. Remember, this pin number must be four digits.

Once you have everything entered, click on the submit button and your new pin number will be selected and you will use that one in the future. Since we don't need to that today, I am going to click the back button to return to the task selection menu.

If you should forget you pin number, the way to have it reset is to go to the registrar's office at either the main or branch campuses. You must appear in person with picture ID. The reason for this policy is to protect your privacy so that no one can call in and change your pin number.

Once you are through with Polaris, the proper way to sign out is to click on this back to login button. By using this, you will be returned to the log in screen so that no one can access your account information. For example, you would not want someone to register you for a class that you did not want to attend.

The rest of the lessons in this group will be on the different aspects of Polaris and the different buttons here. You may proceed through them sequentially or randomly.

Good luck!
